If you love buffalo wings, or any kind of chicken wings really, you’re going to love this blue cheese wing dipping sauce! This flavour-packed wing dipping sauce perfectly pairs with the spiciness of buffalo sauce. This creamy blue cheese sauce pairs well with other foods as well!
Blue Cheese Dipping Sauce
We always pair this blue cheese wing dipping sauce with our buffalo chicken wings. The flavours pair so well together, but also it helps balance out the heat too, since not everyone enjoys as much spice level as I do in their food!
The best part is that you can make it ahead of time so it’s ready to serve once your hot wings are done. Or serve it on a platter with veggie sticks as a simple BBQ appetiser instead.
What You Will Need
Before we get our hands dirty, here’s what you’ll need to whip up this magic blue cheese dip:
- Gorgonzola Blue Cheese: ½ cup, because it’s all about that bold blue cheese taste. Don’t be afraid to experiment with other types of blue cheese- not just gorgonzola. I haven’t had a bad one yet and we’ve used quite a few varieties.
- Sour Cream: ½ cup, for smoothness and a bit of tang.
- Creamy Mayonnaise: ½ cup, adding to the creaminess factor.
- Full Cream Milk: ¼ cup, to get the perfect dippable consistency.
- Lemon Juice: 2 teaspoons, for a hint of zest.
- Lime Juice: 2 teaspoons, because why settle for one citrus when you can have two?
- Minced Garlic: 1 tablespoon, bringing a punch of flavour.
- Seasonings: Salt and ground black pepper, seasoned to perfection.
- Optional: Chopped dill, rosemary, or chilli flakes, if you’re feeling adventurous.
How To Make Blue Cheese Wing Dipping Sauce
this blue cheese hot wing dip is simple and easy to make! Even the kids can make it (although they probably aren’t keen on the blue cheese – mine aren’t!). Here’s how to make your blue cheese sauce:
- Combine Ingredients: In a medium-sized bowl, mix together the gorgonzola, sour cream, mayonnaise, milk, lemon juice, lime juice, and minced garlic. This is where your fork becomes your best ally, mashing and mixing until you achieve a beautifully smooth and creamy consistency.
- Season: Add salt and black pepper to taste. If you’re opting for the additional herbs or chilli, now’s the time to sprinkle those in as well.
- Chill: Once everything is well mixed, cover your bowl with cling wrap or a lid and pop it into the fridge. A couple of hours should do the trick, allowing the flavours to mingle and intensify.
- Serve: Bring it out when you’re ready to serve. This dip is the perfect companion for a plate of hot, crispy chicken wings.
